Who we are
OUR HISTORY
The California Family Counseling Center (CalFam) was founded in 1971 by Clinton E. Phillips, PhD and T. David Jansen, DMin. CalFam Counseling was a part of Phillips Graduate University, a nonprofit educational, counseling, training and research center until April 2019. On May 1, 2019, CalFam began operation as part of the Los Angeles Education Center of Campbellsville University, where the Phillips Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program is offered. This continues the legacy of Phillips and the outstanding MFT curriculum.
TRAINING FUTURE THERAPISTS
The Counseling Center is the primary training facility for Phillips Master of Marriage and Family Therapy program. Our counseling sessions are conducted by highly trained, pre-licensed trainees and associates under the supervision of licensed therapists.
OUR MISSION
The California Family Counseling Center, known as CalFam, operates under a dual mission. We provide mental health services to members of the community with a sliding scale fee that makes our services affordable. We train the next generation of psychotherapists, providing opportunities to practice their craft and science in a professional, supportive environment.
