POSTMASTER’S INTERNSHIP
Modern/Postmodern Therapy in a Clinical Setting
Modern Therapy Program
The Modern Therapy Program offers excellent training and supervision for post-masters therapists. Interns in this program see a varied clientele for individual, couple and family therapy. Interns may work from and receive supervision and training in a variety of theoretical models. They are encouraged to deepen their knowledge and understanding of their preferred theoretical orientation while becoming familiar with other models so they will be prepared for a variety of clinical situations. Extensive training is provided in psychosocial assessment, DSM diagnoses and treatment planning.
Postmodern Therapy Program
The Postmodern Therapy Program offers excellent training and supervision for post-masters therapists. Interns in this program see a varied clientele for individual, couple and family therapy. Supervision will focus on the practical applications of Solution Focused, Narrative and Collaborative Language System ideas. Postmodern therapy approaches invite us to see people as resource laden and full of possibility, not pathology. Interns will learn how to engage clients in dialogue that generates meaningful change and more useful life narratives. Throughout the year, interns will learn how to effectively communicate with peers from different theoretical orientations when discussing assessment, DSM diagnosis, treatment planning, documentation and legal and ethical considerations.
Meeting Times:
All interns meet on Wednesdays (10:00 AM–3:00 PM) for two hours of in-service training and two hours of modern or postmodern group supervision. Additionally all interns receive one hour of individual supervision.
Clients are seen at our center, residential treatment centers, outpatient facilities, schools, and in other settings as arranged by the Counseling Center. Interns who complete the program working in the counseling center and at selected offsite locations will gain experience in the requirements of working in an agency setting. In addition, emphasis is placed on professional development of interns who plan to include private practice as part of their professional future. Trainings are provided in marketing and building a psychotherapy practice.
