Career History

Kathy has been on the faculty at Phillips since 1978, as core faculty, clinical supervisor, curriculum coordinator, and briefly, as Department Chair. She officially retired in 2015, but continues to teach several courses, and supervise in the counseling center.

In addition to her career at Phillips, Kathy has helped thousands of pre-licensed MFTs to pass the California BBS licensing exams. She has offered study materials, workshops, and coaching since 1978, and has recently adapted her activity to all-online training.

Practice/Areas of Focus

In her adjunct faculty role, Kathy mobilizes her years of experience to consult on curriculum development and revision. Her goal is to promote and protect the transformative experience for which the program is known. A specific interest in developing effective pedagogy for adult learners, including appropriate use of technology and remote learning. As a clinician, her primary psychotherapeutic orientation is family systems, with a humanistic/existential flavor.  As part of her exam preparation activities, she stays abreast of changes in the licensing process and tracks the development of the MFT profession both nationally and in California.
